You know what’s really interesting? Since I am so passionate about technology, all I do is hype it up and say how much I love it. Don’t get me wrong, I do, but there’s another side of the coin! Technology may be great and all, but it causes problems too. I recently thought about the biggest problem with technology. It’s something so big that the world today couldn’t operate without it because everyone has become so accustomed to it. Before I tell you, what do you think it is? It’s cell phones!
I honestly believe cell phones are a huge technological problem. I think they are great products and will innovation always going through the roof, they have some amazing capabilities. However, I think the problem with them is the lack of communication they have caused. Now, you must be thinking I am crazy! Lack of communication…is he serious? Yes, I am quite serious. Just think, phones are designed for talking to people. Although, due to texting and instant messaging on your phones, the actual form of speaking has decreased.
I do text myself and use instant messaging, but I do talk on the phone as well. In turn, people who don’t like talking on the phone, use IM and texting as their shell to crawl under. So, would you say that cell phones are a problem and the technological advances within them have caused less verbal communication. I think so!
Looking at this issue from a different perspective, cell phones have also become obnoxious. I’m not saying all of their features and applications are obnoxious. That’s something I have always loved about technology. I think it’s the people who constantly check their phone, always texting, and allow it to interupt actual conversations…make you wonder - should cell phones ever have been made? I don’t think anyone has ever looked at technology or cell phones in this light.
It’s funny how things always lead back to people, isn’t it? People are the causes of many things in this world. Who ever thought the simple idea of a cell phone could become the world’s most obnoxious gadget because it got into the hands of the consumer! I think individuals spend more time on their phone than actually interacting. It’s sad to say, but true. However, don’t mistaken me for saying cell phones are a complete technological failure. Absolutely not.
I believe cell phones were meant for business people and contacting people to say hello when your in other parts of the world. Cell phones were designed for quick means of communication. You know what happened next? It got in the hand of high school and not to mention middle school kids! There’s your biggest problem. These kids who have no thoughts about paying the cell phone bill or use it as a way to look cool really know what the purpose of a cell phone is!
Adults are to blame as well. They buy their kids these phones at too young of an age. Let’s make the age to own a phone 18! Will that be passed as a law? Probably not. I digress. I don’t think cell phones are really the true problem, but society has turned them into the next big thing instead of a useful piece of technology. Stop taking things for granted, it drives me nuts! That will never end though, everyone takes technology for granted! Even me at times…you didn’t just hear me say that!
So, put the phones down for 5 minutes, if you can handle that. Use the gadget for what it was intended to do and call your parents! I’d be interested to see how other people see this issue. Do you believe that people can be the problem with technology at times? Is something as small as a cell phone really making us all obsessed? When was the last time you actually talked to somone.
The cell phone…great invention, but people make it a problem!
