I recently made a post about my HP Mini 1030NR.  Although, as new as it is, I sent it in to be fixed since there was a hardware problem with the built in webcam.  The big problem was the picture was completely black and there wasn’t a way to fix it unless I sent it in to HP.  Let’s just say that this experience was a living nightmare!  The tech support representatives are horrible at HP.  When I called, it took forever to be transferred to the right department (Mini Netbooks).  Not only that, but I waited over an hour just to get in touch with someone.  I can understand they are busy people, but it was outrageous.  Luckily, due to the one year manufacturer warranty covering shipping and repair, this process didn’t cost me a dime, but caused a lot of aggravation.

Make sure if you ever deal with HP and you need them to send the empty box to one address, but want the fixed product shipped to a different address, that you never do this!  Since I am at college and my Mini Netbook was at home, you can see why I needed the empty box shipped to my house and then I wanted the fixed product sent back to my school address. Although, that was too much for them to handle, so learn from my mistakes!

They decided to send the empty box to me at school the first time.  My mom and I both had to call up and wait on the phone for 40 minutes to get them to send the empty box to the right house.  It was getting out of control at this point. They mentioned that when the box arrived to call up and let them know where to send the fixed product to.  I clearly did this step and they confirmed it with me three times, but they still sent it back to my house at home and not to me at college.  My mom had to pay to have it shipped to me, due to their mistakes!

What I can praise them for, is they did fix the webcam as well as the microphone, which didn’t work either. The whole issue with the webcam is you need to be in a well lighted room. The webcam isn’t A+ quality, but just make sure if you have this brand of Netbook and you are having this webcam issue, that you try what I did.  I actually wonder if there was ever any problem with the webcam in the first place and that it was just every room I was in didn’t have enough light.  Anyways, to put this blog post to rest, overall, the Netbook itself is very good.  It was simply a hardware problem and after looking at forums and other reviews on this particular Netbook, many customers had the same complaint.  I plan to do an updated video review of the HP Mini 1030NR soon and I don’t want this to discourage people from buying from HP.

    Frank,

I never had a good experience with HP. I told all my friends not to buy one because their tech support is so bad lol.

    Kai,

I think giving your friends the advice to avoid HP is very smart. They make nice looking products, but let me tell you…the experience with their tech support was an absolute nightmare. I don’t care to ever visit that avenue again.
