When we were younger, we all did some crazy things to show how bad we wanted something or to show others our passion for something. Me being a Penn State Alum, wore my blue and white every Saturday and tailgated in the rain. Well now Google has caused many cities and individuals all around the US to do some crazy thing to show Google why they should choose them.
Google Inc. is in the process of looking for a test city for its new ultra high-speed broadband internet. Me, being from Pittsburgh voted for my city to be chosen as the test city. Pittsburgh would be a great site because of the number of businesses that have their headquarters here, the large number of students that live and work in the city, and having 7 universities/colleges. I was not the only one with this opinion because on Friday, Pittsburgh mayor Luke Ravenstahl declared it “Google Day”. Pittsburgh has also unveiled a new web site to coax Google. PittsburghGoesGoogle.com. But we are not the only city that is trying to sway Google our way. Another crazy act is that Topeka, Kansas has changed their name to “Google” for the month of March. This just shows what some people and cities will do when they want something bad enough.
Google said that they received requests from 6,000 communities to host this new high-speed internet and will need time to go through all over them. Google website said that they should have a winner by the end of 2010, so we have to wait and see if all of these acts were enough for Google to pick them. I look forward to see who the winner will be and see what else they have in store for us.

Did you hear or find about any more news about this one. I read that Google is coming to Pittsburgh, but I think it has to do more with them starting an office here.
I really hope that they choose Pittsburgh and I think Mick did a great job of lists the major factors of why.

I haven’t heard any other news on this topic. Mick, who wrote the post actually wrote about it here. He would be the best person to ask. However, I do like your thinking when you said they could possibly open an office in Pittsburgh. You never know, maybe that’s their ultimate plan. That would definitely be huge for the city.

I think Mick did a good job of letting people know why Google should choose Pittsburgh.
I am sorry we did rename Pittsburgh (PittsGoogle), but we do have lots of schools. I go to Point Park and well the Wi-Fi in the city sucks. I get good surface on-campus, but its hard when I need it when I go down to Oakland or to Cafe Mocha. If we had Google W-Fi the city would becoming a lot popular and I bet more students would want to come to and stay here.

Mick definitely did a great job with this post, Laurin. I’m not from Pittsburgh, however I think this would do a lot of good for the city to be associated with Google in some way. Google draws a crowd and what better way can you think of for a city to draw more positive attention to itself?

UPDATE:
As of right now I have read or heard nothing new about Google and which city they will choose. I do know that the last thing I read, said that they would not have anything more till 2011.
As far as Steve, you are correct; Google is coming to Pittsburgh. Google is in the process of opening a new office/center in The Burgh. They have opening on their site and the Post-Gazette did report on this same topic.
I’ll let you ALL know if I find out any more about this topic.
