I know that I have been a victim saying I wouldn’t use new technology because I didn’t see value in it or it didn’t make sense to me. I’m sure you have been in that same boat, but it’s important to never approach new technology in that manner again. Why you ask? Well, here’s my 10 reasons you shouldn’t say no to new technology.
1. You never know the next big thing. Sometimes you see a new tech gadget and you don’t like it because it doesn’t make sense to you or you don’t see it’s value, but then a ton of people start using it. Next thing you know, you give in and you’re apart of that circle.
2. You use technology in almost everything you do. Technology is so advanced today that almost everyone daily task you do involves technology in some capacity. Just think, you get in your car to go to work. That’s a technology. What are you going to do…stop using your car?
3. Consumers are anxious. You see it constantly all over Twitter and blogs. Whenever something new is about to come out, like when the iPad was released, consumers waited in line over night. People will do anything when it comes to new technology.
4. You want to belong. This may not apply to everyone, but in the long run it does. You see someone with the latest and greatest iPod…what do you do? Run to the store and get one! You want to become apart of that conversation and be able to add your opinions.
5. Technology is your friend. Literally, think about it. From cell phones, instant messaging, email, social media, etc. Your friends are all over these platforms. You want to be on them to in order to interact. Technology is that link to your friends.
6. You’ll get lost in the crowd. The minute you decide you don’t want to be apart of the technology movement that continues to grow, you become stuck in a “past life.” Something you thought was the “what’s in” is no more and you slowly loose the ability to share in experiences.
7. Technology becomes more affordable. You may think I am crazy on this one, but case and point…laptops. They are priced at a point where it’s easy for anybody to afford one. Also, look at how cheap it is now for storage whether on a flash drive or the internet.
8. Anyone can learn. The most common excuse is that technology is too difficult to adapt to. If you say you are too old too understand technology…think again. My Grandma uses a computer, emails, and uses Facebook with no problem. If that’s not enough for you, 104 year old, Ivy Bean uses Twitter just like any 20 year old.
9. You know more than you think. If you’re reading this on a computer right now, congrats you are using technology. Step 1 is always giving it a chance. Once you do that, you learn more and more. Give yourself some credit and don’t doubt yourself.
10. Technology isn’t an interest, it’s a way of life. Technology is a fundamental part of society and everyone that’s in it. It started off early on as a hobby and interest, but now technology has taken over and you notice constantly something new that wasn’t there before. It only gets better!
Do you have anything else you would like to add to this list? What do you think of this comprehensive list? I feel that the minute you try to withdraw yourself from technology, you withdraw yourself from life (in a way). I could be completely wrong and if I am, tell me. I just truly believe that technology is life, in a matter of speaking.
