facebook connect teaser 150x150 Facebook Connect Increases Participation

Participation in social media is the best way to develop relationships and engage in discussions.  With Facebook being one of the largest social networks, many websites are incorporating Facebook Connect as means to encourage participation.  Having a website without comments or an active community is a dead website.  So, why is Facebook connect something you should use?

In the past, if you have been participating in social networks and other forms of social media, you will notice most sites require you to enter your email address when leaving comments.  Some people may find this as a violation of their privacy.  Facebook Connect allows you to comment using your Facebook login information while still keeping your information private.  I believe that with Facebook creating this plugin for websites that it definitely helps to increase participation.  Everyone may not be willing to fill out a form to make a comment, but they will login in with their Facebook account to do so.  Honestly, it’s quicker and easier.

How will you know if a site offers Facebook connect?  It’s pretty easy to notice actually.  After reading an aricle or post on the internet, simply look for the blue Facebook logo right before the comments section.  It will say “Facebook Connect.”  Many people who are actively on the internet love participating and what better way to do that then to allow participation through your Facebook account.  Almost everyone has a Facebook, making it a no brainer for website users to incorporate.  People get to have their voice heard and publishers get more interaction on their site.

Social networks and other forms of social media is all about your community and who is contributing to the conversation.  I believe Facebook recognizes this and uses Facebook Connect as a way to establish their brand and help out fellow websites.  When everyone is working together, that gives rise to active and thought provoking discussions.  Even though this article by Mashable is old.  It provides a video tutorial of how to add Facebook Connect into your website.

Facebook is a large company and not going anywhere any time soon, so if you incorporate a tool that is recognizable to a mass amount of people – you can be sure you will have more audience participation.  Facebook Connect gives people a reason to connect with others.  Facebook is a worldwide name and is trusted by the community.   I couldn’t think of a better way to bring a social network and community interaction together in a better way.  It’s a powerful concept and one that seems to work well at this point.  I only have been seeing it on more and more sites everday. So, have you added it to yours?  You may want to do that now!

For me, it’s very frustrating when a site wants me to login to their site in order to partipate.  That’s why I like when they give the option of Facebook Connect.  I can still give my opinion and do things the way I feel best suit me.  Do you use Facebook Connect often?  If so, what do you like or dislike about it?
