Apple Macintosh 10 Reasons You Should Buy A Mac

I recently bought an iMac from the Apple store and I couldn’t be happier.  I have waiting to get away from Windows and Microsoft for a while now.  I was finally able to afford to get my first Mac computer and now that I have one, I could never switch back over to Windows.  Are you still using Windows?  If you are I wanted to give you my top 10 reasons as to why I believe you should own a Mac.  I have always been a huge fan of Apple’s products and the technology they produce.  It’s always high quality technology and it’s something I can’t get enough of!

So, let’s begin and hopefully by the end of this post you will feel more compelled to switch over to a Mac.  Windows really doesn’t have anything on Apple computers.

Why Buy A Mac?

1.  Mac’s are extremely fast machines.  It takes about 5 seconds for the machine to load to the desktop with everything running.  Websites load in a flash as well.  The processor working together with the RAM on a Mac is in one word – impressive!  I can’t say that Windows computers have this type of speed.

2.  The majority of the programs you use on Windows, already come installed on the Mac.  Let’s face it, all of us use iTunes, AIM, check email, look at photos and video, etc.  With the Mac, you don’t need to install Microsoft Office.  You can buy it separately for the Mac if you want it, but it’s not required.  If you absolutely need that program, look into a free alternative called Open Office.  All the programs I mentioned above already have a pre-installed application that comes with every Apple machine.  How helpful is that?  With Windows, you can spend hours downloading those programs and taking up a lot of space on your hard drive.

3. Mac’s give you a lot of hard drive space.  Granted, you can upgrade Windows computers to do the same, however tell me a Windows computer that comes with over 600GB of hard drive space and gives you the opportunity to upgrade to 1TB if you feel it’s necessary.  When I bought my iMac, I couldn’t believe how much hard drive space I was going to have available.

4.  Clean user interface.  This is more of a personal opinion than a fact.  I have always thought Mac’s have clean user interfaces that make it easier to interact with.  Windows you can do a lot of searching around just to find what you are looking for.  With the Mac, having spotlight search or using the Mac finder right on the desktop makes it easy to access programs and files.  Not to mention, Mac’s are just beautiful machines.

5.  The price is worth it.  I figured this would be the biggest issue stopping people from owning a Mac.  Yes, I do believe Apple charges a little much for their products, but consumers are still willing to pay the price.  It’s the experience you get with using a Mac that makes the cost less of a hassle.  I have more satisfaction with my Mac than I ever did with a Windows computer.  Mac’s are also very powerful and have great protection from being hacked or catching viruses.  That in itself should be enough to own a Mac.

6.  There are exclusive programs to download for Mac’s that you can’t get for Windows.  Granted this works the other way as well.  However, when I was strictly on Windows, there was never a program that only Windows had that would have made me wish it was on the Mac.

7.  The iLife software is in a class of it’s own.  I have never seen an equivalent for Windows.  iLife is great for people who like to do video editing, create their own website, customize photos, and watch movies/burn media.

8.  Checking the weather, time, date, and even having a calculator available are all accessible with just click the scroll button on your mouse! The apps are hidden and can’t be seen unless you click your scroll button.  For me this is very useful to be able to access this information quickly.

9.  That feeling of satisfaction comes from owning a Mac computer.  I felt like I really accomplished something buying a Mac and a Windows computer never gave me that feeling.  Buying a Windows computer is the “let me get what everyone else has.”  A Mac is in a class of its own and there’s something about owning one of these machines that makes the cost worth it!

10.  Great quality and display resolution.  I can’t begin to describe how great the picture and quality is on this machine.  Everything is put together so nicely and it makes watching movies like you are at the theater.  I have never seen resolution like this before!

I hope these suggestions for getting a Mac were useful to you.  I am not an employee of Apple, so I am not just promoting them.  I just really believe their products are worth it!  If you have owned a Mac and a Windows computer, which one is your favorite?  If you use a Mac, would you ever go back to Windows?  Let’s know what you think.

Let me first say nice job with this article, you do have some good points and I don’t have anything against a Mac. If I had the money I would’ve bought a Apple Macbook.

    1. With a Mac yes the processor is limited but with a Mac you get an Intel processor. With a Windows computer you can pick between Intel or AMD.

    2. Yes iMac does come with a nice size hard drive, but it is easiler to add a bigger HD to a Windows PC. I have a 250GB hard drive running XP and a 120GB HD running Windows 7. A you can upgrade a Windows PC with a 1TB drive.

    3. I agree that it is nice to have programs pre-loaded on you Apple machine, but Windows comes programs on it too. You are always going to have to spend time adding and deleting software off of your new computer wither its a Mac or Win.

    4. Yes when people see you with an Apple, they will look at you different but in the end most companies still use Windows PCs. So that is why I am a fan of both..I am starting to get use to using Mac OS and Windows 7

    Hey Mick,

I do agree with your first point. It is nice to be able to choose which processor you want to work with. That is a definite advantage. The issue at times with Macs is when it comes to parts, you always have to go directly through Apple. I notice that is the biggest complaint. It doesn’t bother me too much.

In regards to your second point, Mac’s also do allow you to upgrade your hard drive to 1TB. However, I am sure the price to do so is by far cheaper on Windows than a Mac. Although, when you own a Mac, it comes with the territory. You have to expect to pay a lot for any of their products and people do.

To this point yet, I haven’t deleted any software off my Mac yet. With my Windows machines, I have done so vigorously. I think Windows puts a lot of useless products on their machines. It seems more like a marketing effort on their part. You are right though, you will be adding and removing software regardless of the OS.

Macs do have that elegant look to them, but they are a complete opposite from using Windows. I myself am starting to get use to using a Mac more. There are still many things and features I don’t know about, but I hope to learn as I go.
